How to Quit Marijuana by Stopping Cravings

December 16th, 2008
Michael Porteous asked:

One of the biggest challenges anyone faces when stopping an addiction is the cravings you feel and when discovering how to quit marijuana this will be a major factor in your plan to overcome cannabis addiction so you can lead a healthy happy life and not feel the NEED to smoke pot all the time.

First though, we must look at what a craving is!

Dependency cravings

Dependency is when your body becomes addicted to a drug and you face physical symptoms when you stop taking that drug. In the case of cigarettes a lack of intake of nicotine (often referred to as withdrawal) means you body believes it is being starved of something vital which can lead to agonizing headaches, nausea, diarrhea and more. The difference between cigarettes and marijuana though is that pot is not physically addictive and has hardly any of these symptoms making cases of marijuana dependency a debatable topic.

This does not mean there are no physical side effects to quitting marijuana however as many who have stopped smoking pot can testify. The active ingredient in Marijuana called THC (TetraHydroCannabinol) causes physical changes in your body chemistry which can lead to a few physical effects such as:

Insomnia

Vivid Dreams

Mild Nausea

Sore Throat

Getting rid of THC from your body is a long term process however because it is stored in fat cells and is released at a later date. To speed the process and get through these physical problems it is best to do a detox to flush as much of it out of your system as you can. Exercise top burn fat, lots of water and other detox methods are very helpful in this regard.

Psychological Cravings

The physical aspect of quitting smoking pot is only the tip of the iceberg for many marijuana addicts because the addiction is not dependency on the drug which is basically a non-event. Instead, like many other behavioral problems such as gambling, alcoholism and sexual addictions, those that feel they cannot stop smoking weed are considered psychologically addicted and often use the physical symptoms that occur in the first few weeks as a belief they are ‘hooked’ on the drug despite its lack of dependency issues.

This is nothing to be embarrassed about though, people form ingrained habits to all sorts of things and some things that can be healthy, but when a habit becomes an addiction in that you believe you cannot exist without it this is nearly always detrimental to your life in many negative ways and this is where the real cravings come from.

You feel you NEED to smoke.

You feel SCARED not to smoke.

You might feel you cannot GET BY without just smoking even a little.

This might not even be apparent to you when learning how to quit marijuana, especially if you blame your continuance to smoke on the physical symptoms you get when you do not smoke and this is where the cravings that are rooted deep in your mind come from and these are the ones you need to uproot more than any!

Can Smoking Cigarettes or Marijuana Lower Your Sperm Count or Sex Drive?

December 13th, 2008
Jonathan Matthews asked:

Smoking cigarettes or marijuana has been known to cause a number of health problems, which may possibly include lowering your sperm count, your semen production, and even your libido (sex drive). There are hundreds of toxins in cigarettes and marijuana, many of which can cause diseases and health problems that will last a lifetime. A low sperm count will increase your chance of infertility and can have profound effects on your overall sex life, including erectile dysfunction. Men that smoke too much marijuana may find their sex drive declines very rapidly. We intend to clarify some issues between smoking and male semen production in this article.

Most people know about the variety of toxins in cigarettes - including tar, cyanide, ammonia, nicotine and many other chemicals that are known to be bad for your health. Some of the things that smoking can cause includes cancer, emphysema, asthma, and many more diseases. The second hand smoke from burning cigarettes as well as second hand exhaled smoke is well known to cause health problems in people that don’t even smoke, but are often exposed to it. These health issues are all fairly common knowledge, but did you know that cigarettes can be harmful to a mans sex drive, sperm production, fertility, and even his overall sexual performance.

Many studies have found an increased incidence of infertility, as well as decreased sperm production, in male smokers. Another relationship that some studies have found is an increased percentage of abnormal sperm, and sperm with poor motility (swimming irregularities, crooked tails, etc.). Such defects can effectively lower male fertility without even lowering sperm count, which also happens to be another unfortunate side effect of smoking. While most studies are conducted with cigarette smoke as opposed to marijuana, researchers believe that marijuana also causes many of the same problems that cigarettes do.

Besides reducing male fertility, smoking can ruin your libido and overall sexual virility. There is a link that has been found between smoking and impotence, for example. Many heavy smokers complain about weak erections and erectile difficulties. Another thing to think about is smoking before having sex might be turning your partner off if they are a non-smoker. During sex, most women don’t want to smell cigarette smoke on your breath, so make sure you don’t smell like you just lit up right before you came to bed. Smoking has also been said to make semen taste very bitter, which can lead to hurt feelings in the bedroom.

As you probably already know, smoking can be very detrimental to your overall health. Studies are finding that the complications cause by smoking also apply to sperm production, as well as your virility and libido. From the increased chance of infertility, to the higher rate of impotence, erectile dysfunction, and weak erections, cigarettes and marijuana can both be harmful to your sex life. Quitting smoking cigarettes or marijuana is not easy to do, but something that needs to be considered if you plan on having a healthy life and healthy family.

Stoner Slang – Marijuana Lingo Translated

December 11th, 2008
Robert Kane asked:

Whether you are a casual smoker or you are looking to buy marijuana seeds (remember - for souvenir purposes only!), you’ll inevitably come across some weird and wacky slang terms if you spend any time around marijuana smokers.

When marijuana became part of the 1960’s counterculture, it also developed its own slang and inside jokes. This is partly for practical reasons – after all, smoking marijuana is against the law (although I hasten to add that it isn’t illegal to buy marijuana seeds!) and so smokers and growers have always used euphemisms for marijuana to stay out of trouble and avoid the authorities.

But marijuana smoking slang has also developed for less practical reasons. Marijuana smokers are a community, and every community develops its own lingo. It is a way of identifying those who are in the know, sharing jokes and just having fun. And, over time, marijuana smokers have developed a truly remarkable collection of strange and wonderful slang words to describe marijuana, the act of smoking, the effects of the drug, and much more.

There are some very comprehensive marijuana slang dictionaries out there on the web, but this is a selection of some of my personal favourite euphemisms and expressions…

Assassin of Youth, n. There are (literally) hundreds of nicknames for marijuana, but this one is perhaps the most melodramatic! It is named after a 1930’s film that was intended to warn people of the dangers of marijuana, but (predictably enough) it has become a stoner movie classic (much like “Reefer Madness.”)

“You up for some fun tonight? You, me and the Assassin of Youth?”

Bogart, v. This characterful piece of slang refers to Humphrey Bogart, who seemed to go through a number of 1950’s film noirs with a cigarette permanently attached to his lower lip. To “Bogart” a joint is to hold on to it too long before passing it on.

“Hey, pass it along. Don’t Bogart that joint!”

Boxed, n. When you’ve smoked so much marijuana that you’ve lost control of your legs (like a boxer who tries to stand after being knocked out.)

“Sorry I didn’t come and see you last night. I couldn’t move, I was boxed!”

Dutch Oven, n. What happens when you smoke marijuana for a long time in a small, poorly ventilated room, a phenomenon more commonly known as hotboxing.

“We were smoking for hours in that tiny room…it was a real Dutch Oven by the end of the night.”

Four-Twenty, n, adj, v, etc. In America, Four-Twenty is more than just a piece of slang – it is a description of a way of life! No one quite knows how it started, though it is believed to have been the time of day when a group of friends would gather and smoke after school. It has now come to mean the act of smoking marijuana, an invitation to smoke, and generally stands as an exclamation that identifies you as a marijuana smoker. A person, place or even a country can be described as “420 friendly”, indicating that marijuana smoking is encouraged or at least tolerated.

Henry, n. An eighth of marijuana, named after the famous King Henry VIII.

“Did you buy much?”

“Nah, just a Henry.”

Secret Agent, n. A Secret Agent is a joint that is cunningly rolled to look like a normal cigarette or a rollup. If you spark it up, of course, it won’t pass the smell test, but it will pass a quick visual examination.

“I walked out of my house with a joint in my hand and a cop was right there! Luckily, it was a secret agent, so he didn’t notice…”

Wizard of Oz, n. An ounce of marijuana: oz is the standard abbreviation of ounce, while the “wizard” refers to the ‘magical’ properties of the substance in question.

“No need to pick up for a while, I just brought home the Wizard of Oz.”

2008 Marijuana Sourcebook

December 8th, 2008
Dirk Hanson asked:

Attention marijuana users: The President’s Office of National Drug Control Policy thinks it has a pretty good idea of where you live. Last month, the office released its 2008 Marijuana Sourcebook (PDF), which includes a map of marijuana usage.

Prime marijuana territory, according to the estimates, includes Northern California, upstate New York and New England, Alaska, Northern Florida, Northern Arizona, and Western Montana. Areas showing little interest in pot include Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, and Utah.

The Marijuana Sourcebook also features the controversial gateway hypothesis: “For younger users, the risk of marijuana abuse or dependency exceeds that for alcohol or tobacco. Recent research supports the ‘gateway’ dimension of marijuana — that its use creates greater risk of abuse or dependency on other drugs, such as heroin and cocaine.”

Many addiction researchers consider the gateway hypothesis to be outmoded at best. In a 2006 article in the America Journal of Psychiatry, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School could find no evidence that teenage marijuana use is predictive of drug and alcohol abuse in later life. According to Ralph E. Tarter, professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and lead author of the study, “the reverse pattern is just as accurate for predicting who might be at risk for developing a drug dependence disorder.”

The Sourcebook also concludes that “smoked marijuana is not medicine,” and reminds readers that the FDA has not approved the use of cannabis for anything, at any time. The Office of National Drug Control Policy has always held that the medical marijuana movement is nothing but a front for increased drug trafficking. The report puts the case in terms nobody is likely to misconstrue: “The FDA, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Office of National Drug Control Policy, do not support the use of smoked marijuana for medical purposes.”

Even our friendly neighbors to the North come in for a bashing. “Canada is a consumer as well as a producer of marijuana,” the Sourcebook says, claiming that Canadian use has doubled since 1994.

In addition, under the heading, “Marijuana Growers Present Environmental Hazards,” the Sourcebook estimates that one marijuana garden can generate “up to 53 30-gallon garbage bags of trash.”

Los Angeles Marijuana Laws

December 8th, 2008
calistastacy asked:

Throughout Los Angeles, the enforcement of marijuana laws is extremely strict. Citizens of L.A. continue to face unfavorable penalties for various marijuana offenses. The best way to get out of a sticky situation when faced with a marijuana crime in L.A. is to contact a professional and highly qualified attorney who has experience with marijuana cases.

In Los Angeles, if you are found guilty of possession of more than 28.5 grams of marijuana you can be facing a maximum penalty of 6 months incarceration and a fine of $500. Furthermore, if you are found guilty of cultivating marijuana you can be sentenced to a maximum of 36 months in prison. If you are found guilty of selling any amount of marijuana, you can be imprisoned for a maximum of four years and if you are found guilty of selling marijuana to a minor under 14 years old, you can be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison.

The costs of marijuana crimes in Los Angeles vary according to the criminal charges filed against the offender. An attorney that specializes in marijuana defense should be consulted and hired to defend such cases. The best way to prevent receiving harsh punishments for marijuana related offenses is to retain a successful attorney with a history of helping citizens accused of marijuana crimes.

A first time arrest for a marijuana crime may cause nervousness and anxiety especially when one is unfamiliar with the laws in Los Angeles. A Los Angeles Marijuana Lawyer can ensure that your rights are being fully protected for they are knowledgeable on all of the current laws. Thus, consulting the appropriate attorney can greatly reduce anxiety as well as reduce your possible penalty.

What to Expect When you Use Marijuana

November 23rd, 2008
Tarun Gupta asked:

Marijuana is one of the most commonly abused drugs in the world. This is because it is relatively cheap in its true form and can be easily bought and grown. As a plant, its leaves are green with five spiky separations per leaf, like a spread out hand. It can grow fast and is hardy hemp that is named Cannabis Sativa.

Marijuana is sold as a dry greenish brown mixture of flowers, leaves, stems and seeds of the plant. People usually smoke this plant just like a cigarette or maybe put it in a bong (a glass device for inhaling the smoke, much like a pipe). Others also use it as a tea or mixed with food. Many heated debates have been launched in support of the plant and against it. It has been used for different reasons for centuries but mainly for the hallucinogenic effect and it medicinal properties. Many countries across Asia still use it in spite of its ugly reputation and the question of legality.

Effects of Marijuana

Marijuana has short term effect and long term effects on people. Within a few minutes of inhaling the smoke of the cannabis hemp, it should take effect on your brain. The main chemical element in Marijuana that usually affects people is THC, also known as delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol. Some protein receptors in our nerve cells actually bind with THC and this starts off a series of events in our brain. This series of events in our brain ultimately ends with the high that users experience. It enters the body within minutes if it is smoked since it passes through the lungs into the bloodstream. It is not actually the Marijuana that is detected by the drug test kits but metabolites which are residue of the drug.

Many of the protein receptors that bind with THC to create the high are located in the part of our brain that influence our sensory, memory, concentration, pleasure, thought, time perception and movement. This is the reason why so many users like getting high because they actually sense pleasure and happiness with the high which the cannabis creates. On the other hand, Marijuana can also affect an individual’s judgment, learning, memory, distorted perception and cause increased heart rate. Long term effects of Marijuana are loss of memory, distorted perception and stress.

Marijuana also affects the heart by exposing the user to four times the risk of a heart attack within the initial hour of using the drug. It can also cause upper respiratory complications such as a painful cough and stinging throat and mouth. Users are prone to acute chest illness, high risk of lung infections and prone to obstructed airways.

Marijuana stays in an individual’s system for as short as three days and more than ninety days. The length of stay depends on how long the individual has used Marijuana and the metabolism of a person. This means not everybody has the same length of time when Marijuana stays in your body.

How Long Does Marijuana Stay in your System?

November 23rd, 2008
Marvist asked:

Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). Cannabis is a term that refers to marijuana and other drugs made from the same plant. Other forms of cannabis include sinsemilla, hashish, and hash oil. All forms of cannabis are mind-altering (psychoactive) drugs. The main active chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol).

“How long does marijuana stay in your system?” This question is asked by many different people, and for good reason. Marijuana (pot, herb, weed, grass) is the most commonly used and tested for drug in the United States and several other countries as well. Marijuana’s effects on the user and detection time depend on its strength or potency, which is related to the amount of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) it contains.

When you ask the question “How long does marijuana stay in your system?” you need to take into account the fact that there is no simple answer to this question. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) can stay in a person’s body for as long as 3 to 90 days after smoking or being ingested orally. There are numerous determining factors for how long drug toxins stay in a persons body which vary from person to person, such as the analytical method used, your health, your body weight, metabolism, fluid intake, the type of drug toxin, and the degree of exposure to the drug toxin.

The speed at which marijuana leaves your body depends both on the speed of your metabolism, as well as on the half-life of THC. It’s estimated that THC can have a half-life that ranges anywhere from 1-10 days. It’s almost impossible to find out what that half life is, which means that it is very difficult to use it to calculate how long it will take for all of the THC to leave your body.

The most common period of time is anywhere from 3-30 days, depending on your metabolism and the amount of marijuana that you’ve smoked. This is unfortunate, since it means that while most drug tests can only turn up evidence of other drugs if you’ve been taking the drug within a few days of the drug test, marijuana could still be detected in a urine test up to a month after the last time it is used. If you smoke it occasionally it will remain in your system for up to 10 days. If you smoke marijuana on a regular basis it will stay in your system for as long as 45 days, and if you smoke marijuana at a constant pace, it can stay in the body for 90 days, Marijuana is fat soluble. It stores in the fat cells of the body, the brain, the liver, and the kidneys, in other words the major organs.

Instead of spending your time trying to calculate how long marijuana will stay in your system, simply find out what kind of drug test you will be taking, and then purchase the product which is most effective and appropriate for the particular drug test you will be undergoing. There are many products available on the internet, and you will be able to find one that fits your needs and budget. Whether you will be taking a urine test or a hair follicle test, remember that it is much safer to invest in an effective and appropriate product instead of attempting to pass your test by estimating how long marijuana will stay in your system.
